All eyes are on this year’s AFRIMMA music awards which are scheduled to be held in Dallas, Texas from the 15th to 17th of September 2023. Tensions are already high during the ongoing voting stage as many fans feel many incredible artists are missing in different categories of the awards.
East Africa has been well represented in various categories, from Kenya Nyanshinski and Bien are nominated under Best Male East Africa alongside Eddy Kenzo of Uganda, Diamond, Mbosso and Harmonize from Tanzania. Under Female East Africa Maua Sama, Zuchu and Nandy from Tanzania, Nikita Kering and Fena Gitu from Kenya, Azawi and Spice Diana from Uganda are nominated to battle each other. Sauti Sol from Kenya are nominated under Best Live Act category. Femi One from Kenya is nominated under Best Female Rap Act along side Rosa Ree of Tanzania. Young Lunya from Tanzania is nominated under Best Male Rap Act.
For Best Collaboration category Mbosso from Tanzania is nomination for the song Shetani which also features the
late Costa Titch and Alfa Kat, Bein from Kenya was also nominated for the feature Nana Remix which also had Joshua Baraka, Joeboy and King Promise, Angela by Boutross and Juiceer Mann both from Kenya also earned a nomination. Diamond and Rayvany earned a nomination under Song of Year category with their song Nitongoze, Joshua Baraka and Bien from Kenya also are nominated under the same category for their song Nana Remix featuring Joeboy and King Promise. Hanscana from Tanzania is nominated under Best Video Director while Dj shinski is nominated for Best African DJ USA. Jashua Baraka and Bien again has been nomination under AFRIMMA Video of the Year with the song Nana Remix featuring Joeboy and King Promise, Mbosso from Tanzania also is nominated under the same category with the shetani featuring Costa Titch and Alfa Kat, lastly Jay Melody from Tanzania also is nominated for the video of his song Nitasema.
Under Music Producer of the year Ayo Lizzer from Tanzania and 207 from Unganda will battle it out with other producers from Africa. For Best African Dancer Masaka Dance kids and Ghetto Kids both from Uganda will face oof each other, Angel Nyigu from Tanzania will also join in that competition as she is also nominated under the same category. James Onen from Uganda and Idris Sultan from Tanzania will battle it out under the Radio/TV Personnel of the Year. Sauti Sol from Kenya will face stiff competition under the category of Best African Group. Biggest East Africa wins are expected under Best Newcomer category where Lavalava from Tanzania is nominated, Artist of The Year Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania earned a nomination.
