Results of 2023 KCPE released by the ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations begun on the 30th of October, 2023 and ended on the 2nd of November 2023. After the completion of the examination, the ministry announced that the results will be released on Thursday the 23rd of November, 2023. As per the earlier communication from the Education Ministry, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu officiated the release of the examination results at the new Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in South B, Nairobi.
About 1.4 million candidates undertook their KCPE exams and this year’s cohort was the last to undertake the KCPE to pave way for the full implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in primary schools which will now see students undertaking Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations. On Thursday 23rd November, 2023 Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu released the results of the 1,406,557 candidates who sat for their KCPE exams. Speaking during the release, CS Machogu noted that 8,525 candidates scored over 400 marks, representing 0.60 per cent of this year’s class, while 352,782 candidates had between 300 and 399 marks, which is 24.92 per cent.
The 200-299 bracket had the most candidates at 658,278, representing 48.49 per cent, 38,3025 scored between 100 and 199 marks representing 27.05 per cent. Those with less than 99 marks were 2,060, accounting for 0.15 per cent of the lot. Overall, 51.3 per cent of this year’s class comprised male candidates while females made up 48.7 per cent. Michael Warutere from Riara Springs Academy in Nairobi emerged the top candidate with 428 marks out of 500. Emmaculate Wacheke with 427 from Gilgil Hills School, Nakuru came in second, Khadija Yunis with 426 from Light Academy came in third, Mathew Wafula with 426 came in fourth and Santos Kiprono with 420 from St. Mathew Maraba Tinderet come in fifth.
Following the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Thursday Morning candidates were given an SMS code from where they could access their results. Candidate’s needed to sms their index number followed by the word KCPE to the code 40054 at Ksh. 25 per SMS. However, after the results were immediately announced, candidates were unable to access their results through the SMS service. Hours later, candidates still couldn’t access the results and early in the afternoon, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued an apology saying their system was experiencing technical issues.
