Just days after the hot heel of the Western Region finals, – which saw Brenda Girls from Bungoma and Ebwali Boys from Vihiga secure their slots in the National Finals scheduled for February 2024 – it is now time for Nyanza Region to crown their regional champion who will not only win 250, 00 Kenya Shillings but also represent the region at the National finals in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament for the 1 million Kenya Shillings grand prize. Kisii and Siaya Counties were the first to go with the aim of crowning the county champions who would battle champions from other counties from the Nyanza Region for that Regional crown.
Siaya County Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Results.
The action began in Siaya County on Saturday 10th September 2023, where Jera Girls from Ugenya and VSA Girls from Gem faced each other in an electrifying opening match that took place at Siaya KMTC Grounds. Victoria Sports Academy (VSA) emerged 3-1 victorious over Jera Girls and they were crowned the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Siaya County champions in the girls’ category. Victoria Sports Academy earned their victory courtesy of a hat trick from the talented super striker Leila Awuor in the 6th, 20th, and 79th minutes of the game, respectively. Leila has so far netted eight goals in total since the tournament kicked off in the Nyanza region. She earned the top striker award, taking home KES. 10,000.
In the boys category, Ambira Mobimba Secondary School from Ugunja locked horns with St. Peter’s Wagai Mixed Secondary School from Gem on Saturday 10th September 2023 at the Siaya KMTC Grounds. However, the match was abandoned one minute before the final whistle after fans assaulted center referee Kevin Amol, who had sent off Ambira Mobimba’s Emmanuel Otieno with a red card for using abusive language toward one of the opponent’s players. The verdict of the match will be determined by FKF in the coming days.
Kisii County Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Results.
In Kisii County, on Sunday 11th September 2023, Kisii Queens faced off against Kenyenya’s Moteiribe FC where Kisii Queens secured a 1-0 win to qualify for the regional knockouts to be held in two weeks. The only goal was scored by seventeen-year-old Christine Osebe in the 52nd minute of the game.
In the boys category Small Simba from South Mugirango went head-to-head with their rivals Ichuni FC from Nyaribari Masaba at Sameta Grounds in Kisii. Small Simba FC, who had trailed by one goal in the first half, made a remarkable comeback in the second half to beat Ichuni FC 3-1 to claim the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Kisii County title in a highly contested tournament.
The other Nyanza County finals (Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu, and Nyamira) are scheduled to be played next weekend on the 16th and 17th before culminating in the intercounty playoffs where one team from the boys category and one team from the girls category will be crown Nyanza Region winners and they will not only win 250, 000 Kenya shillings but also stand a chance to be crowned National Champions with 1 million Kenya Shillings grand prize to be won too in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament.
