This was a statement from the celebrated Kenyan female rapper Petra who quits music after almost a decade in the rap game. Her announcement ignited reactions from her fans who were wondering what is happening and what might have been the course of this announcement.
Born Petra Bockle on the 14 May 1995, Petra is a rapper, songwriter and singer of Kenyan and Seychellois descent. Her ability to perform using both Swahili, English and sometimes switching back and forth, makes her stand out and one of the best rappers not only in Kenya but the world at large. As part of her therapy – after the death of her father – Petra begun singing at an early age and over time the interest in music developed deeper. Drawing her influences from the biggest rappers of all time – 2Pac, Eminem, Mc Lyte and Lil Kim, Petra’s biggest break came when she was featured by King Kaka’s “Ligi Sooo Remix” featuring Jay A , Mejja, Chiwawa, Madtraxx, Petra, Shikow Femi One, Raz, LyraOko, Wangechi.
This was the perfect introduction of her into the rap scene, Petra though disappeared from the music scene for a while and In 2018, she released a collaboration featuring Kenyan hip hop artist Khaligraph Jones on a song titled “Rider” propelling her to even greater heights. The same year – 2018 – she was featured yet again by Khaligraph Jones on the renowned cypher “Khali Kartel Cypher”. Petra has been on major releases over the years and noticeable on track “Turn Off The Light” with the Jamaican king of dancehall Vybez Kartel.
