Kenya win gold at FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2023.

 

The Kenya women’s team in the FIBA 3×3 made the country proud by winning Gold at the just concluded FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2023 in Cairo, Egypt on December 3. Kenya defeated the host Egypt to win the Gold. Coming to the final, both sides were undefeated but Egypt enjoyed the advantage for most of the game. Egypt however, saw the gold medal slip away as Kenya mounted a comeback.

 

Natalie Mwangale who had been immense all tournament called the game with a huge buzzer-beating two to seal the improbable win for Kenya. Madina Okot was the undeniable star of the game with a whopping 11-point, 18-rebound performance. Natalie’s performance throughout the tournament was a sensation for Kenya as her heroics handed Kenya Gold and herself the MVP award at the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2023.

Mwangale put on a show throughout the tournament, capping her 23 points. Her offensive and defensive prowess made Kenya a clinical force and she took home the MVP award. Egypt women’s team lead by Raneem Mohamed who put up 23 points throughout the competition won silver and Madagascar women’s team lead by Harisoa Hajanirina with a 20-point took home bronze.

 

 

In the Men’s category, Egypt continued their perfect run in the competition with a strong 18 – 15 win over Nigeria. Ahmed Mohamed led his side in scoring with 7 while Mido Taha added 6. Amr Zahran capped off a 5-point display with a thunderous dunk to seal the tie in favor of the home side. Ramy Basha’s 18 points performance over the tournament led him to win the MVP award. Nigeria finished second while Madagascar finished third both winning silver and bronze respectively.
