Nyanza Regionals finals continued over the weekend of 16th and 17th September 2023 in search of the Region’s champions (both in the boys and the girls category) in the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament. Siaya County crowned their champions (Victoria Sports Academy (VSA) in the girls category and the match between Ambira Mobimba Secondary School and St. Peter’s Wagai Mixed Secondary School is yet to be decided by FKF after it ended prematurely when fans evaded the pitch). Kisii County crowned their champions (Kisii Queens in the girls category and Small Simba FC in the boys category), and now it was time for Kisumu County, Nyamira County, Migori County, and HomaBay County. The edition featured 16 teams from the four counties, eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams, all competing fiercely to win their respective county titles. Each county winners will face off in the inter-county playoffs before proceeding to the regional finals scheduled for 30th September – 1st October at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.
Nyamira County
The Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament Nyamira County finals were an absolute thrill. The girls category brought together Rigoma FC against Gekomoni Starlets. Rigoma FC showcased their incredible teamwork and determination as they sored to victory after a 3-2 win against Gekomoni Starlets in a very highly contented match. In the boys category, fans were treated to an entertaining and a very thrilling match that brought together Nyaguku FC against St Peter’s Nyaisa FC. Nyaguku FC dominated the match and outclassed Nyaisa FC by thrashing them 6-0 leaving many fans in awe.
HomaBay County
Karabondi Ranger FC are HomaBay County’s champions in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament Nyanza region edition in the boys category after a triumphant 1-0 victory against Mbita High through a penalty kick in the 23rd minute, expertly taken by Brian Odhiambo after Mbita’s defender Isaac Elshadai handled the ball in the box.. This hard-fought match was played on Sunday at the Wakiaga Polytechnic Grounds. In the girls category, Ogande Girls emerged victorious after a 2-0 win against Alara Girls.
Migori County
In the girls category, Selphar Lugaye’s hat trick, Eunice Akinyi’s brace, and Christine Akeyo’s goal ensured Agenga Girls win by thrashing Awendo Queens 6-0 to claim the county championship title. In the boys category, Awendo Academy knocked out Kangeso FC 4-2 on penalties to be crowned the county’s champions. This was after the two teams went on a barren draw at full time, leading the match to a penalty shootout.
Kisumu County
In the boys category, Obunga are the new champions after emerging victories against Manyatta United by outscoring them 4-3 on post match penalties after a 1-1 draw. In the girls category, Plateau Queen’s continued their unwary dominance in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament when they were crowned Kisumu County champions after a 2-1 win over Manyatta Ladies.
Each county winners will face off in the inter-county playoffs before proceeding to the regional finals scheduled for 30th September – 1st October at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.
