Baze Radio as powered by Safaricom has partnered with the newly launched Safaricom service S-HOOK to launch a new radio show dubbed Campus Radio Takeover which is aimed at giving Campus Radio students hosts an exclusive experience of hosting a show live on Baze Radio as part of Baze Radio mission and vision. The first edition of Baze Radio Campus Radio Takeover took place on the 25th of November, 2023 and Baze Radio hosted a delighted and sensational team from USIU radio – USIU university – lead by CJ, Nicole Wanjiku and Ritha Marley.
USIU Radio was started in the Spring semester of 2010, after being granted the broadcasting license by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), in 2009. It falls under the Journalism and Corporate Communication department, providing an opportunity for students to hone their skills in radio broadcasting and training on media techniques and technologies. USIU Radio airs on the frequency 99.9 FM, which is typically allocated to community radio stations. The station transmits over a radius of 5 kilometers from the USIU-Africa campus. All day-to-day functions in USIU Radio are student-run and led by a Student team called Radio Management.
The Broadcast Technologist oversights operation, while the Patron (Journalism Faculty) is a mentor who champions our cause in higher places. Safaricom Hook is a platform that seeks to empower the youth by leveraging the power of technology. Focusing on three key hooks; technology, career, and culture, the platform aims to nurture and support the aspirations of the Gen Z demographic and transform their lives by being a technology enabler, through offering access to custom-made offerings that will leverage Safaricom’s extensive mobile network.
As part of the three pillars of Safaricom Hook and Baze Radio vision and mission, the show is aimed at helping these young campus radio students hosts and their listeners a chance to tap into the power that comes with Safaricom Hook (technology, career, and culture). The Campus Radio Takeover is scheduled to be taking place each and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. live on Baze Radio. Listeners get a chance to walk a way with gift hampers after answering different questions.
