Born Bien Aime Baraza Alusa on the 28th of December, 1987, known professionally as Bien, he is a Nairobi-based songwriter, musician, and vocalist who creates soul-soothing Afropop music. Bien studied Journalism and Media Studies at the United States International University(USIU) and graduated in 2011. In 2006, he joined hands with his friends – Polycarp, Savara, and Chimano – and together they formed Sauti Sol. As a band, they have achieved great heights including winning a Grammy and selling out Arenas across the world, and according to many, they are seen as one of the biggest music exports from Kenya.

 

As member and lead vocalist of Sauti Sol, Bien embarked on his solo career in 2021 with the release of his debut single ‘National Treasure’, a collaboration with Xenia Manasseh, Bensoul, Vallerie Muthoni and AfroNautiq. He followed up the single with the release of his lead single “Bald Men Anthem” with Aaron Rimbui off his debut collaborative project ‘Bald Men Love Better’ with Kenyan jazz musician Aaron Rimbui. The five-track project highlighted Bien‘s vibrant Afropop sounds, and infectious vocals. The same year – 2021 – Bien released “Thick Thighs” feat Bensoul which continued to project Bien to different heights as a solo artist.

In 2022, Bien and Fully Focus joined hands to released a masterpiece “Dimension” making his fans yawn for more from him. He joined hands with his label mate – Sol GenerationNviiri The Storyteller for “Decide” before releasing a solo single “Inauma”. When Sauti Sol announced hiatus break in 2023, all eyes were on Bien to see how far he would take his solo career considering the level of success he has had with Sauti Sol. “My Baby” featuring Ayra Starr opened new doors for Bien in terms of his sound. Bien has continued to release major singles including, “Nikilewa” feat Nviiri The Storyteller and Bensoul, “Too Easy” feat Dj Edu, “Nana” feat Joshua Baraka and King Promise, “Ma Cherie” and “True Love” which is the first single of his upcoming album “Alusa why are you shirtless”.

Stepping onto the COLORS stage, the Kenyan artist brought out the good vibes with his uplifting performance of his new single ‘True Love’. Lively guitar lines opened the instrumentation of ‘True Love’, and a pounding drumbeat followed to serve as the backdrop for Bien‘s soul-stirring vocals as he sang about being utterly infatuated by his true love.
