Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Coast Region winners.

 

Chapa Dimba na Safaricom coastal region finals came to an end on Sunday 14th January 2024, after the finals that brought together eight teams (four boys and four girls’ teams) battling for a tough regional title clash at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa County. The eight teams were from each county in the region after an intercounty competition.

 

The eight teams included Bahati FC from Taita Taveta, Bandari Youth from Mombasa, Gunners from Tana River, and King Royal from Lamu in the boys’ category. The girls’ category featured Changamwe Ladies from Mombasa, Ukunda Queens from Kwale, Bull Queens from Kilifi, and Wenje Secondary from Tana River.

Saturday 13th January 2024 – Semifinals.

 

On Saturday the 13th of January 2024, the first semi-final Kilifi’s Bull’s Starlets faced off against Wenje Secondary School in the girl’s category where Bulls Startlets won the match 7-0 to book a spot in the finals.

 

The second clash featured a matchup between Tana River’s Gunners FC and King Royal from Lamu in the boys’ category. The match was forced to be determined by a penalty shoot after a 1-1 draw in normal and extra time where Young Gunners won the shootout 4-2 to book a spot in the finals.

 

The third match saw the home team Changamwe Ladies play against Ukunda Starlets from Kwale where Changamwe Ladies showed dominance by defeating Ukunda Starlets 4-1 to book a finals showdown against Bulls Startlets in the girl’s category.

 

 

The climax of Saturday’s action-packed matches unfolded and featured the home team, Bandari Youth, in a tough battle against Tana River’s Bahati Juniors, which saw Bandari Youth emerge victorious with a 1-0 narrow win to book a spot against Young Gunners in the boys’ category.

 

Sunday 14th January 2024 – Finals.

 

Sunday 14th January, 2024, saw two finals (one in the girls’ category and one in the boys’ category) to determine who will be crowned as the Coast Region champion.

 

 

In the boys’ category, the final brought together Bandari Youth from Mombasa against Young Gunners from Tana River. Bandari Youth, however, silenced The Young Gunners 3-0 to emerge as the new coastal regional champions.

 

In the girls’ category, the final saw Changamwe Ladies from Mombasa versus Ukunda Queens from Kwale. Changamwe Ladies secured their second regional Safaricom Chapa Dimba title after defeating Kilifi’s Bulls Starlets 3-0.

 

 

Changamwe Ladies and Bandari Youth took home KES. 250,000 and book a slot to represent the region at the national finals set for March in Homabay. The runners-up teams (Ukunda Queens and The Young Gunners)  took home KES. 150,000 each.

 

The Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Most Valuable (boys and girls) each received KES. 30,000. In addition to the prize money each player, both winners and runners-up will also get Neon Smartphones, the first locally assembled 4G smartphone in Kenya.
