Companies across the world are working around the clock to map out their AI approach. Google is one of the companies integrating AI in some of their services just to cope up with the cusp of this new creative era. YouTube is on the road to adding AI into their services as Google teases AI tool that clones famous singers with their permission. Earlier this year – 2023 – YouTube developed a set of AI Music principles and a Music AI incubator that are rooted in responsible collaboration. Since then, they have been exploring the possibilities of how AI can empower creativity alongside artists, songwriters, producers and other partners while also identifying its challenges.
Through learning and testing, YouTube can better understand how to enhance artist and industry opportunity and deepen fan engagement, benefiting the broader music community. Together with Google DeepMind, YouTube is doing below AI music experiment which is only available to a small group of artists and creators.

Dream Track for Shorts
This initial phase of the experiment is designed to help explore how the technology could be used to create deeper connections between artists and creators, and ultimately, their fans. 9 artists including, Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan who have been chosen to collaborate in this experiment and work with YouTube to shape the future of AI in music, are giving a small group of select US creators the chance to create unique soundtracks of up to 30 seconds for their Shorts.
Creators simply need to type an idea into the creation prompt and select a participating artist that appears in the carousel, an original Shorts soundtrack featuring the AI-generated voice of that artist will be produced for the creator to use in their Short.
Music AI Incubator
Working with artists, songwriters and producers in Music AI Incubator is helping YouTube test, learn, gain feedback and hear ideas so that they can develop the best experiences possible for their community of artists, viewers and fans. According to YouTube the earlier group of participants were intensely curious about AI tools that could push the limits of what they thought possible. This led YouTube to iterate on a set of music AI tools that experiment with those concepts. Imagine creating a rhythm with just a hum, well Music AI Incubator could bring those possibilities to life.
Despite the tremendous opportunity AI presents, YouTube also recognizes that this is a quickly evolving space that presents complex challenges. One of YouTube’s greatest strengths is their strong relationships with music industry partners. They promise to continue their commitment to collaborating with them as they enter this new era, critically exploring together new opportunities and developing sensible and sustainable controls, monetization and attribution frameworks. As these experiments are still in their early stages, and YouTube will continue to evolve their approach as they learn more.
