Baze Radio Biography – Karun.

KARUN – ONLY YOU | A COLORS SHOW

 

Born Karungari Mungai but known professionally as Karun, she is a Kenyan singer-songwriter, music producer, and instrumentalist. She started her music career at 14 years and at 15 years her career started to shine when the group she was part of – Camp Mulla – was nominated for the prestigious BET Awards in 2012. However, the group disbanded and each member embarked on their solo careers including Karun who is taking the world by storm with her alternative R&B and pop music.

 

Karun went on to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the US in pursue of music education – an art she had vast interest in. Her career has been characterized by colorful and eclectic production choices. Her sonic choices all seem to echo the current era of borderless global pop music, a seesaw between confessional R&B lyricism and declarative Pop songwriting, all underlined by her remarkably sweet-sounding voice that has consistently exuded a soulful charm.

On the 16th of August 2013, Karun released her debut project “Sun & Moon” which was a 14 track album that featured Kenya’s musical greats Kagwe Mungai, and Fena Gitu. On the 16th of November 2016, she released yet another project dubbed “Indigo”. The 7 songs project was was a master piece as it was a build up from her first album “Sun & Moon”. On the 26th of March 2021, after 5 years without a major project release, Karun made a cameo when she dropped a 7 track project dubbed “Catch A Vibe” which was a huge success as the focus track “Catch A Vibe” was featured in Apple’s “Worldwide Developers Forum 2021″.

One year later, on the 3rd of June 2022, she followed “Catch A vibe” with another 7 tracks projected called “Passenger 555”. Her releases have received critical acclaim on the continent and the world. Karun catalogue has notable R&B singles like “Roses” which was featured in Focusrite’s official YouTube promotion for their 3rd Generation Scarlett 2i2 interface, “Glow Up” which was premiered on Mr. Eazi’s Empawa Africa program, and features such as “Say You Love Me” by Grammy award winning producer Juls , and “VIBRATION” another song she features on by Grammy award winning musician Savara of Sauti Sol. Above all Karun’s music is raw , honest, and meditative as she aims to inspire young artists to walk their own path and create timeless music.
