The 14th Edition of the 2023 Diamond League series came to an end with the finals in Eugene, Oregon (USA) on the 17th of September 2023 witnessing high-class performances including world records on the final day. The edition began on May 5th in Doha, Qatar, before crossing over to Rabat, Morocco on 28 May. The campaign saw athletes head to Florence in Italy on the 2nd of June. On the 9th of June, it was Paris’s turn in France and 15th of June Oslo, Norway held the prestigious event at the Bislett Stadium. June 30th it was Switzerland’s turn in Lausanne town before the event headed to Stockholm, Sweden on the 2nd of July. 16th July Chorzow Poland, 21st July Fontvieille, Monaco, 23rd July London, UK and 31st August in Zurich, Switzerland. In the month of September the event kickstarted in Xiamen, China, on 2nd September making its first appearance in China, on 8th of September it was Brussels turn in Belgium before the final event headed to Eugene, USA from the 16th to the 17th of September, making its first appearance in the USA have only been held in European countries.
Kenya, just like other countries, had athletes representing the country in different categories, both field an track during the final series of the 14th edition of the 2023 Diamond league in Eugene, USA . Emmanuel Wanyonyi won the 800m after clocking in a time of 1.42.80. Out of 14 events Emmanuel Wanyonyi has won the 800m heat 4 times – Rabat, Paris, Xiamen and Eugene. Simon Kiprop Koech won the 3000m Steeplechase after clocking in a time of 8.06.26 falling short of his winning time in Monaco where he clocked 8.04.19. Faith Kipyegon made the country proud again after winning the 1500m with a time 3.50.72. Kipyegon has won this year’s Dimond League series 4 times in the 1500m field event.
In other results, Beatrice Chebet finished second in the women’s 5000 metres with a time of 14.05.92. Beatrice Chepkoech finished second and Faith Cherotich finished third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with times of 8.51.67 and 8.59.65 respectively.
