Western Region champions in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Tournament to be crown.
All the focus is now set to the crowning of the western region champion who will not only win Kshs 150, 000 for the girls and Kshs 250, 000 for the boys but also will get a chance to battle it out for the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom grand prize of Ksh 1 million. The Western Region finals are set to be held at Bukhungu Stadium on August 26-27. After Ebwali boys (boys team) and Madira Soccer Assassins (girls team) from Vihiga booked their spots in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Western Region finals, all eyes were now on the other remaining counties – Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma.
Starting in Busia County, John Osogo Secondary School from Budalangi emerged winners after a thrilling match against Teens of Hope FC from Nambale with a 1-0 victory at the Otimong Primary grounds. After the victory John Osogo Secondary school booked a place in the regional finals with the aim of getting an opportunity of representing the Western Region in the National Finals. In the girls category, Chakol Queens proved to be the better side after a comfortable victory of 4-0 over their long standing rivals Kingandole Queens. Coaches and captains of both teams – after their victories – thanked Safaricom for providing a platform that aims at giving young people an opportunity to showcase their talents from the grassroots level.
In Kakamega county, Mwitoti Boys emerged victories through a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw during the normal time against Lugusi Boys in the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament. For the girls, Lugari Progressive knocked out Kakamega Starlets after a comfortable win of 4-0 to be crowned as Kakamega County girls champions. The Manance and Lugari Progressive are now focused on the fast approaching Western Region Finals.
In Bungoma County, Brenda Girls overpowered Kim Girls Secondary by thrashing them 6-0 to book their spot in the Western Regional finals of Chapa Dimba na Safaricom. Compel Sportiff on the other hand in the boys category showed their talent with a 2-0 victory, goals from Chatembe Chaton and Randu Joseph were enough to seal the win. Both teams are so determined not only to bring the Western Region victory to Bungoma but also the National victory.
Now eight teams from each county in the Western Region – Ebwali boys and Madira Soccer Assasins from Vihiga County, Lugari Progressive and Mwito Boys from Kakamega County, Brenda Girls and Compel Sportiff from Bungoma County, and John Osogo Secondary School together with Chakol Queens from Busia County – are set to face each other off on August 26 and August 27 2023 to determine the winner who will represent the region in the National finals for the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom grand prize of 1 million Kenya shillings.
