Early Days Backdrop.
Paul Wekesa , known professionally as Mista Ree , is a rapper, singer, producer, sound engineer and the founder of SkizaBeats – a music production, distribution, promoting and artist management label – based in Nairobi Kenya. Music to Mista Ree is like a calling and at the age of 12 he starting rapping, since then he has never looked back making music part of his life.
As part of music interests, Mista Ree was always attracted to the art of making music, music presentation and production, the art of piano and singing. Basing his body of work – production and rapping – on the fact that music blesses people who listens to it and shares good energy representing different moods and mindset, he believes that music is the world’s biggest asset that can be used to transfer energy to many places in the world.
Mista Ree‘s pen game when it comes to songwriting is very unique and very relatable hence the crown undisputed king of mistari. His writing is propelled by the poetry side of music and his mother being a poem writer played, and will forever play a very big role in his journey as a songwriter and a rapper. Mista Ree‘s early exposure to music – dating way back in his primary school days – got him listening to the hip hop greats 50 cents, Eminem, Ukoo Flani and many more.
Joining the Nairobi School for his secondary education was the biggest blessing and the biggest stepping stone for Mista Ree in his quest of becoming the biggest rapper. Two weeks into his new secondary school life, he overcame all odds and went for an audition to perform in an upcoming journalism club. During his turn, Mista Ree turned a simple audition to a performance attracting the attention of students and judges, making him the school’s rap star.
Under the guidance of Mr. Moses Watatua – the then music teacher at the Nairobi school – Mista Ree developed further interest in music making him switch from technical class – art and design – to music. During music lessons, Mista Ree was able to understand the structure of music well and in return he took advantage of the advanced programs and facilities at the school to learn music production. In his four years stay at the Nairobi School, music was Mista Ree ‘s extra curriculum activity and he would continue rapping during talent shows and other music related activities in and out of school.
During his different performances in school, Mista Ree became a rap superstar in school and in his stardom is where he met Blu Lace 16 and Mike MG whom were also music enthusiast and together they started hanging out, writing music and performing together under the name Chozen Gang. Words spreads faster and it wasn’t long before B3nnar joined them as a promoter and the business manager, Spree and Yang AP also joined them as part of the entourage.
Mista Ree graduated high school – after four years – with a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). He joined college to advance his studies and it was in college where he met Barrack Ohumar who also had the same dream and vision of making it in the music industry both as a rapper and an executive producer. Together – 7 members now – formed Deep State Mob (DSM) and Mista Ree is referred to as the founder and the visionary behind the movement.

Mista Ree is not only a hip hop music producer but also he is flexible and accepts the challenge of working with other artists doing different genres of music. He works not only with Deep State Mob members but also other music acts across Kenya, Africa and the world. Over the years, Mista Ree has been able to perform in different major events and appeared on different shows of both mainstream and alternate media.
Nonstop To Top Stop
As an artist, on 19th August 2019 Mista Ree announced his debut in the music scene. After being part of Deep State Mob‘s projects – as a producer and a rapper -, Mista Ree released his first major project “Nonstop To Top Spot” . The album had 7 tracks and received positive comments for a debut project. “Nonstop To Top Spot” was a pace setter and a blue print for Mista Ree to conquer the rap game as an artist and a producer. The album had 7 tracks and features from Blu Lace 16, mike MG and Oldskul.

Ree-Ligion
On August 28th 2020, Mista Ree released yet another project – an album – called “REE-LIGION”. As a second album, the stakes were high for Mista Ree to live up to many of his fans’ expectations after his incredible first album. To the surprise of many Mista Ree set yet another bar high with ”REE-LIGION”. The album had 8 tracks with no features.

Skiza (Listen) Ep.
2021 was a good year for Mista Ree as he went on to release two Eps. The first Ep Skiza (Listen) was released on 4th September 2021 and the EP had 4 tracks. The Ep had no collaborations and without a doubt it was proof enough that anything that Mista Ree touches turns to gold.

On 20th October 2021, Mista Ree released a second Skiza Ep sequel titled Skiza (Extra). The Ep had 4 tracks and on this one he featured Spree – a member of the renowned Deep State Mob – on the last track of the Ep “Pull Up”.

On June 24th 2022, Mista Ree released his third studio album titled “CANT PUSH ME BACK NO MORE”. This was directed to his haters notifying them no matter what they do they cant stop Mista Ree from achieving his heights. To his fans this was a solid statement that Mista Ree was making in the angle that he is here to stay – at the top – and there is nothing to hold him back. The album had 16 tracks and features from YangAP, Mike MG, Barrack Ohumar, Blu Lace 16, Spree, B3nnar and Keit Soita.
